Home Depot CEO to take temporary medical leave
Chief Executive Officer Ted Decker will step away for a few months due to a medical issue, the U.S. home improvement retailer announced.

Home Depot Inc. said on Friday that Chief Executive Officer Ted Decker will take a temporary medical leave for a few months, citing a medical issue.
The company did not disclose the specific nature of the medical issue. Home Depot stated that Decker’s responsibilities will be assumed by Executive Chairman Joseph DeAngelo during the interim period.
DeAngelo, who previously served as CEO from 2014 to 2022, will oversee operations and strategic initiatives until Decker’s return. Home Depot emphasized that Decker remains in good standing and is expected to resume his role after the leave period.
The announcement follows a period of stability for Home Depot, which has reported consistent revenue growth and maintained its market position in the U.S. home improvement sector. The company’s shares were trading slightly higher in premarket activity on Friday.
Home Depot did not provide further details regarding the timing of Decker’s return or the impact on ongoing projects. Analysts noted that the transition in leadership is unlikely to disrupt the company’s near-term operations, given DeAngelo’s prior experience at the helm.
Home Depot operates over 2,300 stores across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, employing approximately 470,000 people.
