Home Depot CEO takes medical leave ahead of Q2 earnings
Chief Executive Ted Decker steps away for unspecified medical reasons just days before the retailer’s quarterly results. Interim leadership appointed.

Home Depot Chief Executive Officer Ted Decker will take a medical leave of absence, the company announced on Monday.
The leave begins immediately and follows six days before the home-improvement retailer’s second-quarter earnings report, scheduled for Aug. 20. Decker’s departure is effective immediately, with Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail assuming the role of interim CEO during the period.
Home Depot did not disclose the nature of Decker’s medical condition or the expected duration of the leave. The company stated that Decker remains available to support the transition and will continue to serve as an employee during his leave.
The announcement comes as the company prepares to release its Q2 financial results, which analysts anticipate will reflect broader trends in U.S. consumer spending on home improvement. Home Depot has not provided additional details on the leadership transition or its potential impact on operations.
The company’s shares were indicated slightly lower in pre-market trading on Monday, though the move was not attributed to the leadership change by analysts.
