HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. announced Tuesday the appointment of Mark Volk as senior vice president, revenue, at BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc., its wholly owned subsidiary.
Volk will lead global go-to-market strategy spanning enterprise, government, sovereign AI, hyperscale, research and academic markets, overseeing the commercialization of GPU-powered AI infrastructure including sovereign AI cloud, GPU-as-a-Service, colocation and hybrid AI solutions. He reports to Craig Tavares, president and COO of BUZZ HPC.
Prior to joining HIVE, Volk served as CEO of CiphexAI Corporation. He spent five years at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, holding positions including vice president of federal for Canada and general manager of HPC and AI commercial for the Americas. At IBM, he held worldwide leadership roles managing a portfolio of approximately $1.2 billion and helped launch the company’s first HPC cloud SaaS offering.
The appointment comes as HIVE pushes deeper into GPU cloud operations. As of Aug. 21, the company said it had exceeded $1 million in combined daily revenue from hashrate services and GPU cloud services. Since that date, HIVE has averaged production of 12 bitcoin per day, representing roughly 2% of global bitcoin network output. Its GPU cloud operations alone generate an average daily revenue of approximately $100,000.
HIVE said year-to-date it has closed more than $600 million in total contract value for GPU cloud contracts, including three- and five-year agreements, with a built demand pipeline valued at more than $1 billion. The company noted the total contract value figure reflects the aggregate value of signed customer agreements and letters of intent and does not guarantee future revenue.
Meanwhile, HIVE plans to wind down bitcoin mining at its Swedish facilities and evaluate repurposing the infrastructure for high-performance computing and AI applications. Mining output at the Swedish sites represented less than 5% of global daily bitcoin revenue during August.
