HII secures $2.2 bln U.S. Southern Command contract
Defense contractor HII wins a decade-long deal to support U.S. Southern Command operations, boosting its backlog and revenue outlook.
HII Technologies has been awarded a $2.2 billion contract to provide engineering, logistics and operational support to U.S. Southern Command, the Pentagon announced on Friday.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract spans a decade, with a five-year base period and five one-year options, according to a statement from U.S. Southern Command. The deal covers maintenance, modernization and sustainment of command facilities and infrastructure across Central and South America and the Caribbean.
HII, a Virginia-based defense and aerospace firm, did not disclose financial terms beyond the $2.2 billion ceiling. The company’s backlog stood at $20.5 billion as of its most recent quarterly filing, with defense programs accounting for the majority of its portfolio.
The contract aligns with broader U.S. efforts to strengthen regional security partnerships and counter transnational threats. Southern Command, headquartered in Miami, oversees military operations in 31 countries and territories.
Analysts said the award underscores HII’s growing role in U.S. defense logistics, though the company’s exposure to government spending cycles remains a key risk factor. HII shares were indicated higher in premarket trading following the announcement.
