Container shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd has taken a $600 million hit to its financial results as a direct consequence of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, according to company disclosures.
The disruptions in the region have forced major container lines to alter maritime routes, bypassing the Red Sea and the Suez Canal in favor of the longer journey around Africa's Cape of Good Hope. These operational adjustments have added significant transit time, increased fuel consumption, and driven up overall operating costs for global shipping operators.
