Four crypto-linked stocks outperform as Bitcoin tumbles from peaks
Marathon Digital, Riot Blockchain, CleanSpark and Cipher Mining gain despite Bitcoin’s 28% drop from record highs. Shares rise on operational growth and network expansion.

Four U.S.-listed cryptocurrency mining stocks have outperformed broader markets even as Bitcoin retreated from record levels, underscoring investor focus on operational execution over spot price volatility.
Marathon Digital Holdings, Riot Blockchain, CleanSpark and Cipher Mining all reported gains over the past month despite Bitcoin’s 28% decline from its all-time high of $73,794 on March 14. The companies, which operate large-scale Bitcoin mining facilities, cited network expansion and energy efficiency improvements as key drivers of their stock performance.
Marathon Digital, the largest U.S.-based miner by market capitalization, added 19,000 mining rigs in the first quarter, bringing its total fleet to 56,000 units. The company reported a 12% increase in Bitcoin production during the period, totaling 1,242 coins. Shares of Marathon have risen 15% over the past month, outpacing the S&P 500’s 3% gain.
Riot Blockchain, the second-largest U.S. miner, expanded its hash rate by 18% in the first quarter and produced 1,178 Bitcoins. The company’s stock has climbed 12% since mid-March, supported by its strategy to scale infrastructure ahead of the upcoming Bitcoin halving event. CleanSpark and Cipher Mining reported similar production growth, with CleanSpark increasing its hash rate by 22% and Cipher Mining deploying an additional 10,000 miners in Texas.
Analysts attribute the divergence between Bitcoin’s price and mining stock performance to expectations of sustained network demand and the upcoming halving, which will reduce new supply by 50% in April. The halving typically incentivizes miners to expand capacity to maintain revenue margins, a dynamic that has historically supported stock valuations even during price corrections.
The four companies collectively hold a combined market capitalization of approximately $12 billion, with Marathon Digital accounting for nearly half of that total. Their outperformance contrasts with broader crypto equities, which have seen mixed results amid macroeconomic uncertainty and regulatory scrutiny.
Investor sentiment remains bifurcated: while spot Bitcoin ETF inflows have slowed since March, mining stocks continue to attract capital based on fundamentals rather than price speculation.
