FibroBiologics Inc. (NASDAQ: FBLG) has appointed Leigh Steinberg to its board of directors, the company announced on Monday. Steinberg, CEO of Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, brings more than five decades of experience in contract negotiations, having secured over $4 billion in deals for clients and represented more than 300 professional athletes.
The appointment comes as FibroBiologics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in Houston, continues developing fibroblast-derived therapeutics for chronic diseases. The firm holds a portfolio of 270 patents issued and pending, according to its latest corporate filings.
Steinberg’s career spans roles as a sports agent and advocate for neurological health, including organizing brain health summits since 1994 to address traumatic brain injury risks in athletes. He recently established the Leigh Steinberg Foundation to fund research and raise awareness of neurological injury prevention and treatment.
FibroBiologics founder and CEO Pete O’Heeron said Steinberg’s negotiating expertise and extensive network across sports, medicine, business and media would be valuable as the company advances its fibroblast cell therapy platform. Steinberg, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in political science and law, is also the author of books including Winning with Integrity and The Agent, which inspired the film Jerry Maguire.
