FalconX and Ethena have launched a $1 billion secured lending facility backed by assets supporting USDe, the dollar-pegged synthetic stablecoin issued by Ethena. The facility, structured through a special purpose vehicle, will provide overcollateralized loans to institutional borrowers while allowing Ethena to diversify returns on its USDe reserves beyond traditional crypto basis strategies.
Assets backing the loans will be held at qualified custodians, with FalconX originating and servicing the loans. The facility is designed to support financing for institutional trading strategies, corporate treasury management and payments, though specific loan terms, expected returns, borrowers and initial deployment amounts were not disclosed.
The agreement deepens an existing partnership between the two firms, as FalconX already facilitates USDe across its institutional trading and financing services. USDe, which has a market capitalization of approximately $4 billion according to DefiLlama, maintains its dollar peg through crypto collateral paired with short derivatives positions. Returns are generated via funding rates and basis spreads, distinguishing it from fiat-backed stablecoins such as USDT and USDC.
