Exascale Labs Holdings Inc. and EnergyBank have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore grid-independent AI compute infrastructure powered by floating offshore wind and long-duration energy storage.
The agreement outlines an initial pilot project intended to deliver up to 800 kilowatts of compute capacity, using Exascale’s modular data center technology paired with EnergyBank’s energy storage systems. The pilot will be built around Zephyros-One, a floating offshore wind turbine operated by Sustainable Energy Norway, and will be funded through private investment and potential public funding opportunities.
The companies also plan to develop a reference architecture for future projects targeting up to 10 megawatts of firm compute capacity per turbine. The proposed system is designed to integrate power generation, storage, cooling and compute into a single offshore platform, eliminating the need for conventional grid connections and potentially accelerating the deployment of AI-ready data centers.
The memorandum does not obligate either party to proceed with the pilot or any subsequent deployment. Any project remains subject to technical evaluation, definitive agreements, financing and regulatory approvals.
Exascale CEO Hoansoo Lee said AI infrastructure growth is constrained not by chip availability but by the ability to secure and deliver power at scale within commercially viable timelines.
