Eli Lilly has launched its oral weight-loss and type 2 diabetes treatment Foundayo in the United Kingdom, priced between £100 and £120 per month.
The pill, known chemically as orforglipron, is the second GLP-1 oral therapy to reach the UK market, following Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy. Foundayo received authorization from Britain’s drug regulator on August 10 and became available for private prescription on August 24.
The monthly cost of Foundayo places it below Eli Lilly’s injectable diabetes treatment Mounjaro, which is priced at £330 for a one-month supply. Comparatively, Wegovy’s lower starting doses are available from private providers in the UK for between £74 and £129 per month, with costs rising as patients progress to higher doses under multi-month subscription plans.
Great Britain is the first European market where Foundayo is accessible. The treatment remains under review by the European Medicines Agency for broader EU approval. Meanwhile, Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy has received a positive recommendation from the agency, pending a final decision by the European Commission.
Access through the state-administered National Health Service (NHS) is contingent on an evaluation by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), a process Eli Lilly is actively engaged in.
