The E.W. Scripps Company announced the creation of a new senior role to oversee small and medium business (SMB) growth and direct‑response advertising. Jen Carfley, who joins from NBCUniversal where she led the SMB growth team, will assume the position effective immediately and will report to chief revenue officer Brian Norris.
Carfley’s remit covers strategy and sales for Scripps’ video inventory across local, national, linear and connected‑TV platforms. Beginning in 2025, she will directly manage direct‑response advertising for the company’s ION and Bounce networks. Existing partnerships will remain unchanged; Marathon Ventures will continue to handle direct‑response sales for Grit, ION Mystery, ION Plus and Laff.
Carfley brings more than 15 years of experience in media and advertising sales, spanning linear broadcast, digital and streaming. Prior to NBCUniversal, she held senior roles at Sling TV, Dish Media Sales, Defy Media and BBC America, where she founded the performance‑media division. She holds a B.S. in sports management and marketing from Juniata College.
Scripps operates roughly 60 television stations in 40 U.S. markets and distributes content through its national news outlet, Scripps News, as well as entertainment brands including ION, Bounce, Grit, ION Mystery, ION Plus and Laff. Norris said Carfley’s cross‑platform expertise will make the company’s video inventory more accessible to advertisers.
The appointment reflects Scripps’ broader effort to monetize its expanding portfolio of linear and streaming assets amid a competitive advertising landscape.
