Dutch equities closed lower on Thursday, with the AEX index retreating 0.40% as losses in the oil and gas, real estate and basic materials sectors offset gains elsewhere. Advancing stocks slightly outnumbered decliners by 47 to 41, while 17 remained unchanged.
The AEX index ended the session at 910.45, reflecting broad-based weakness across key sectors. Among the top gainers, Relx PLC led with a 2.83% advance, closing at 31.24, followed by Wolters Kluwer NV at 70.12 and BE Semiconductor Industries NV at 195.00.
Shell PLC led the decliners, falling 1.67% to 38.76, while ING Groep NV and Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV also posted declines of 1.44% and 1.23%, respectively. Ahold Delhaize’s shares hit a 52-week low of 30.56.
Volatility on the AEX index remained flat at 21.09, while the EUR/USD pair was little changed at 1.17. Crude oil futures rose modestly, with October WTI crude up 0.56% to $82.69 per barrel and Brent crude for November delivery up 0.68% to $87.53. December gold futures edged 0.15% higher to $4,660.45 per troy ounce.
