Cytek Biosciences said on Friday a Delaware jury ruled in its favor on three of four patent claims in a dispute with Beckman Coulter, awarding $56 million in damages while the company vowed to contest the remaining finding.
The verdict, issued by a jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, found that Cytek did not infringe Beckman Coulter’s patent on one claim but determined infringement under the doctrine of equivalents on the fourth. Damages were split into $20 million in lost profits and $36 million in royalties.
Cytek, which develops flow cytometry instruments using Full Spectrum Profiling technology, said the ruling does not require changes to its product lineup or operations. The company added that its spectral flow cytometry products will continue to be supplied to customers globally.
Chief Executive Wenbin Jiang said the company was pleased with the jury’s decision on the majority of claims but disagreed with the single remaining finding and damages award. Cytek plans to file post-verdict motions challenging the outcome and may appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit if necessary.
