The crypto industry’s primary political action committee, Fairshake, has announced a $30 million commitment to defeat former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown’s bid to return to the U.S. Senate. The spend represents the largest single‑candidate outlay by the sector in the 2026 midterm cycle and echoes a $40 million investment that helped unseat Brown in 2024.
Fairshake, which receives backing from major crypto firms including Coinbase, Ripple Labs and Andreessen Horowitz, says it still has roughly $90 million in cash available for the general election. The PAC’s total war chest approaches $100 million as the November 3 vote approaches.
Polling conducted this month of 1,000 likely Ohio voters showed Brown at 48 % support versus 45 % for incumbent Republican Sen. Jon Husted. A separate market‑based forecast on Polymarket gave Brown a 57 % chance of winning.
The PAC’s spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, confirmed the $30 million allocation and indicated further strategy announcements are forthcoming. Earlier in the cycle, Fairshake spent about $12 million on the Alabama Senate primary to secure Barry Moore’s nomination and more than $10 million on an unsuccessful effort to block Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton’s Senate primary bid.
Despite influencing the composition of the Senate Banking Committee—where Brown previously served as chair—Fairshake’s broader spending has not yet secured the sector’s top legislative priority, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. The PAC continues to fund ads that do not reference crypto directly but are intended to aid candidates deemed favorable to the industry.
The move comes as the current Republican Senate majority, which has been receptive to crypto interests, faces a potential shift if Democrats regain control. Brown’s critical stance on digital assets has made him a focal point for the industry’s political strategy.
