Comcast on Tuesday launched Xfinity Shield, a cybersecurity platform that combines network-level threat protection with AI-driven home monitoring and family safety controls.
The platform, available nationwide starting today, includes two tiers: WiFi Shield, offered at no additional cost to Xfinity Internet customers with Advanced Xfinity Gateways, and Shield Select, a $15 monthly subscription. Comcast estimates it currently blocks an average of 30 million threats daily across its network.
WiFi Shield provides network-level malware and phishing protection via Xfinity CyberSecure, alongside WiFi Motion, an opt-in feature that detects movement using radio frequency signals without recording video or images. Family Settings allow users to manage screen time and device usage. All features require an Advanced Xfinity Gateway.
Shield Select adds an indoor camera, door/window sensors, cloud video storage, 24/7 emergency response access and AI-powered motion detection that identifies people, pets, vehicles and packages. Customers can upgrade via the Xfinity app.
The average Xfinity customer connects 36 devices to WiFi, according to Comcast. Additional features are planned for 2027.
"We believe the network should do more than connect devices. It should help protect the people, their personal information, and everything within their homes," said Jon Gieselman, Chief Growth Officer, Connectivity & Platforms at Comcast.
