Colombia's benchmark COLCAP index closed 0.30% lower on Wednesday, as losses in financials, investment firms and public services outweighed gains in other sectors.
The index ended the session at 1,258.30 points, with 30 of the 30 components in the index declining. Advancing issues totaled zero, while decliners outnumbered gainers by the same margin.
Cementos Argos led gainers with a 5.87% rise, adding 700 points to close at 12,620.00. Corporacion Financiera Colombiana SA followed with a 4.80% gain, climbing 960 points to 20,960.00. Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores SA Pref advanced 2.29%, up 19 points at 847.00.
On the downside, Etb fell 3.33%, or 2.50 points, to 72.50. Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana SA declined 1.96%, losing 1,160 points to close at 58,020.00. Celsia SA dropped 1.92%, or 95 points, to 4,865.00.
Commodities traded mixed, with US coffee futures down 1.29% to $328.15 per pound and cocoa futures up 0.25% to $5,934.00 per ton. Gold futures for December delivery rose 3.62% to $4,580.75 per troy ounce. The USD/COP exchange rate held steady at 3,052.94, while the BRL/COP rate remained unchanged at 589.70. The US Dollar Index futures fell 0.87% to 98.69.
