CoinMarketCap has acquired crypto derivatives analytics platform CoinGlass for an undisclosed sum, broadening its coverage of leveraged trading positions. The deal, announced Friday, preserves CoinGlass’s existing brand, team, website, app, free tools, API, and pricing structure, ensuring continuity for users. CoinGlass tracks key metrics such as open interest, funding rates, liquidations, and options across 28 major exchanges and more than 2,500 trading instruments, according to its announcement. The acquisition aims to provide CoinMarketCap users with deeper derivatives positioning insights alongside traditional cryptocurrency price data, including liquidation clusters and funding rate trends.
Binance, which acquired CoinMarketCap in April 2020, stated at the time that the platform would operate independently, with no influence over its rankings. The move follows Binance’s broader strategy to integrate CoinMarketCap into its ecosystem while maintaining operational autonomy. CoinGlass’s retention of its identity and infrastructure underscores the acquisition’s focus on enhancing CoinMarketCap’s analytical capabilities without disrupting existing services.
The expansion aligns with broader trends in crypto derivatives, where data-driven insights are increasingly critical for traders. CoinGlass’s coverage of liquidations and funding rates—critical for assessing market sentiment and risk exposure—will now be part of CoinMarketCap’s consolidated offering, potentially improving efficiency for institutional and retail traders alike.
