China’s central bank reaffirms loose monetary policy stance
PBOC signals continued support for growth amid economic headwinds, with no immediate shift in policy direction.

China’s central bank, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), reiterated its commitment to maintaining a loose monetary policy to support economic recovery amid ongoing challenges.
The pledge, outlined in a statement following the bank’s latest policy meeting, underscores a continued emphasis on liquidity provision and credit expansion to stabilize growth. The PBOC has maintained accommodative measures since late 2022, including targeted cuts to reserve requirement ratios and selective policy rate reductions, to cushion against external demand weakness and domestic property sector strains.
Analysts note that the central bank’s stance contrasts with tightening cycles in major advanced economies, where central banks have prioritized inflation control over growth support. The PBOC’s approach reflects domestic priorities, including efforts to bolster employment and consumer confidence, while managing risks in the financial system.
The policy guidance comes as China’s post-pandemic recovery faces headwinds from soft global demand, lingering property market stress, and structural challenges in the manufacturing sector. Recent economic data has pointed to uneven growth, with industrial output and retail sales expanding at a slower-than-expected pace in recent months.
The central bank did not specify timing or scale for additional measures but signaled readiness to adjust policy tools as conditions evolve. Market participants will monitor upcoming data releases, particularly inflation and employment figures, for further signals on the timing of any potential shifts in monetary settings.
