Global sales of electric trucks and buses nearly doubled in 2025, crossing the 500,000-unit threshold as China dominated the market with a 90% share, according to data from the International Council on Clean Transportation.
Total sales rose 86% year-on-year, driven largely by China’s medium- and heavy-duty truck segments, where volumes more than quintupled over two years. Outside China and the United States, battery-electric buses accounted for 56% of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicle sales, with the European Union and India leading regional volumes at approximately 9,800 and 5,000 units, respectively.
Battery-electric truck sales remained comparatively low outside China, totaling about 41,000 units. Within the European Union, electric truck sales surged 71% in 2025, capturing a 4.5% market share.
The report, published Thursday, underscores China’s dominant role in accelerating the global transition toward zero-emission commercial vehicles.
