Chevron shares broke through their March 2026 all-time high on Wednesday, clearing the upper boundary of a long-term uptrend and opening the path for further gains.
The rally comes as the Houston-based oil major positions itself to capitalize on a recently announced US-Venezuela oil agreement. Under the deal, Washington gained access to approximately 20 Venezuelan oil fields containing roughly 65 billion barrels of proven reserves — about 20% of Venezuela's total, the world's largest known stockpile. That volume exceeds current US proved reserves of some 45 billion barrels by roughly 50%.
Chevron was already well situated. It remains the only US oil company still operating in Venezuela, maintaining infrastructure including pipelines established over years of prior sanctions and nationalizations. Separately, Chevron struck its own agreement with the Venezuelan government granting access to additional high-return fields in the Orinoco Belt in northern Venezuela.
The company plans to more than double its production in the region, raising output from 280,000 barrels per day to 600,000 barrels within the next few years. Extraction costs in the Orinoco Belt sit at roughly $20 per barrel, providing a substantial margin leverage if oil prices hold.
Analysts project Chevron's earnings per share could rise from approximately $15 today to $18 or higher over the next three to four years. At the current share price, the stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio in the low-teens, which would compress toward single digits on the projected earnings trajectory.
Shares have been trading around $213. Traders are eyeing a move toward $230, targeting a gain of roughly 10%. Structured-note products are available for investors seeking leveraged exposure: Vontobel offers a mini-future with a 4x leverage factor (ISIN: CH1582402678), while UBS lists a barrier reverse convertible maturing in October 2027 that pays an annual yield of 8% provided the share does not fall below a barrier at $135.02. Leonteq Securities also carries a mini-future with a 9x leverage factor (ISIN: CH1591961268).
The technical picture now shows no immediate overhead resistance, and the removal of the all-time-high hurdle could invite renewed institutional buying.
