A bipartisan ethics proposal, dubbed the CLARITY deal, has been reported to include provisions that would impact former President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency holdings.
The plan would require Trump to divest his interests in crypto businesses, effectively forcing a sale of the assets he holds in that sector.
In exchange, the proposal would permit Trump to defer capital‑gains taxes on the proceeds of those sales, a mechanism that could reduce his tax liability by millions of dollars.
The deal remains a proposal and has not been enacted; its final terms and any potential tax savings are subject to legislative approval.
Bloomberg cited the proposal as part of ongoing bipartisan efforts to address perceived conflicts of interest involving former officials.
