Banco do Brasil misses Q2 2026 profit view despite revenue beat
Brazilian lender posts higher-than-expected revenue but falls short on quarterly profit outlook for mid-2026.

Banco do Brasil S.A. reported second-quarter 2026 revenue that exceeded analyst expectations, though the bank’s profit outlook for the period fell short of market forecasts.
The state-controlled bank disclosed its Q2 2026 financial results on Thursday, with total revenue surpassing consensus estimates compiled by Refinitiv. Net interest income and fee-based revenue contributed to the top-line beat, reflecting continued strength in lending and transaction volumes.
Despite the revenue outperformance, Banco do Brasil’s management guided to a profit figure below the median estimate from analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The bank attributed the shortfall to higher-than-anticipated credit provisions and operational costs, which offset gains from its core banking operations.
Chief Financial Officer João Pedro Oliveira stated that provisions for loan losses rose 12% year-over-year, driven by elevated risk in specific corporate segments and a moderation in consumer credit quality. The CFO also highlighted increased spending on digital transformation initiatives and compliance measures as key factors pressuring profitability.
Analysts had projected a net profit of 8.2 billion Brazilian reais for Q2 2026, according to a Bloomberg survey. Banco do Brasil’s actual profit guidance for the quarter ranged between 7.1 billion and 7.5 billion reais, a range that fell below the lower bound of most estimates.
Shares of Banco do Brasil were down 3.2% in pre-market trading following the announcement, extending losses from the previous session. The decline reflected investor disappointment over the profit miss, despite the revenue beat.
The bank’s management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 outlook, citing expectations for stable loan growth and controlled expense management. However, analysts noted that the weaker-than-expected quarterly profit guidance could prompt a reassessment of near-term earnings forecasts for the lender.
Banco do Brasil remains Brazil’s second-largest bank by assets and a key player in the country’s financial system, with a significant presence in corporate and retail lending.
