Australian equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the S&P/ASX 200 gaining 0.68% as advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by 625 to 470. The benchmark index’s implied volatility gauge, the S&P/ASX 200 VIX, fell 0.88% to 10.54.
Technology, consumer staples and healthcare led sector gains, while industrials lagged. Among individual movers, ARB Corporation led advancers with a 12.44% rise to A$21.24, followed by Ansell’s 7.64% gain to A$41.16 and DroneShield’s 7.16% advance to A$1.95.
Monadelphous Group led decliners with an 11.62% drop to A$28.61, while Liontown Resources fell 8.87% to A$1.21 and PLS Group declined 6.22% to A$5.13.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with gold futures for December delivery up 0.17% at $4,705.71 per troy ounce. Brent crude for November delivery fell 0.95% to $89.68 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate for October delivery declined 0.87% to $84.27 per barrel.
The Australian dollar held steady against the U.S. dollar, with the AUD/USD pair flat at 0.71. The AUD/JPY cross rose 0.11% to 113.89, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.07% at 99.00.
