AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) said it received a $51 million delivery order from the U.S. Army for Switchblade 600 Block 2 loitering munitions under a five-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract valued at up to $990 million.
The order follows the Army’s 2024 award of the Lethal Unmanned Systems contract, which includes Switchblade 600 Block 2 systems designed for multi-domain operations. The Block 2 variant features upgraded avionics, automatic target recognition, improved navigation in GPS-denied environments, and Silvus MANET radios for extended distributed operations and handoff ranges. A prior Foreign Military Sale order also included Switchblade 600 Block 1 systems.
Since entering service in 2025, the Switchblade 600 has been deployed across more than 20 brigade combat teams, with hundreds of U.S. soldiers trained on its operation. The systems were developed in collaboration with the U.S. Special Operations Command.
Brian Young, AeroVironment’s Senior Vice President of Loitering Munitions, said the Army’s continued investment reflects demand for long-range, precision loitering munitions and the Switchblade family’s reliability in operational environments.
