Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, has introduced a new series of bidirectional transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the surface-mount DO-218AC package, designated the XFD11KxxCA series. Announced on September 10, 2026, the devices are engineered to meet the stringent requirements of automotive applications, with a focus on protecting high-voltage systems in modern vehicles.
The series comprises 15 devices, available in both commercial-grade and AEC-Q101-qualified versions, offering robust protection for a range of powertrain configurations. Key specifications include a peak pulse power dissipation of 11 kW at a 10/1000 µs waveform, with clamping voltages ranging from 40.6 V to 104.0 V. The devices support automotive systems operating at 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V, ensuring compatibility with next-generation electric and hybrid vehicles.
In terms of current and thermal performance, the TVS devices can handle up to 207.1 A in peak pulse current at the same 10/1000 µs waveform, with a surge capability of 8/20 µs up to 2140 A. Operating across a temperature range of -55°C to +175°C, they also feature a maximum leakage current of 10 µA at stand-off voltage. The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and meet J-STD-020 moisture sensitivity requirements, with a peak reflow temperature of 245°C.
Target applications include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving control units, on-board chargers, DC/DC converters, traction inverters, and battery management systems. Beyond automotive, the devices are also suited for energy storage systems, industrial servo motor systems, server power supplies, telecom power supplies, and radar power supplies.
Samples and production quantities are immediately available, with lead times of approximately 12 weeks. Vishay’s introduction underscores the company’s commitment to advancing automotive electronics, particularly in the face of increasing complexity and voltage demands in modern vehicle architectures.
