Village Farms International, Inc. announced on September 10, 2026 that Hamid Shekarchi has been appointed interim chief financial officer, effective immediately. The appointment follows a succession plan first disclosed on April 3, 2026. Shekarchi previously served as CFO of the company's Canadian Cannabis business, overseeing finance, accounting and information technology departments.
Shekarchi’s career includes 18 years of financial leadership. Before joining Village Farms in 2021, he co-led BDO’s Western Canada Cannabis practice, focusing on business valuations across North America and Europe, and held senior positions at BDO Canada and PwC advising clients in manufacturing, mining, technology and real estate. He holds a degree from Simon Fraser University and the professional designations CPA, CA and CBV, and was recognized with Business in Vancouver’s Forty Under 40 Award.
The outgoing CFO, Steve Ruffini, will stay with the company as part of the leadership team to oversee mergers and acquisitions. Village Farms operates cannabis cultivation and distribution facilities in Canada and the Netherlands, holds interests in cannabis businesses in Australia and Germany, runs a cannabinoid wellness platform in the United States, and maintains investments in renewable energy and food ventures.
