Bruker Corporation has secured an order exceeding $6 million from the University of California, Berkeley, for a suite of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instrumentation, the companies said.
The purchase, routed through Bruker BioSpin, centers on an AV NEO-X 800 MHz spectrometer accompanied by a cryogenically cooled MAS CryoProbe. The order also includes additional NMR systems and upgrades covering solid-state, solution-state and Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) research, providing the university access to 800 MHz-class instrumentation.
Delivery is expected in 2027.
The equipment will be deployed at UC Berkeley's Pines Magnetic Resonance Center, which operates as a shared-core facility offering 24/7 access to researchers from academia, national laboratories and industry. The center is closely associated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Professor Tatyana Polenova, director of the Pines Magnetic Resonance Center, said the expansion would "propel UC Berkeley, an institution with an exceptionally strong tradition in magnetic resonance, to the forefront of high-impact innovation for years to come."
Dr. Patrick Wikus, head of product management at Bruker BioSpin, stated that the AV NEO-X platform provides a foundation for advanced solid-state, solution-state and DNP NMR experiments.
The new instrumentation is intended to support research across chemistry, materials science and structural biology, including studies of intact cells and organisms, macromolecular assemblies, bio-inspired materials, inorganic materials and molecules at interfaces and surfaces.
