SolarEdge Tests 800 VDC Data Center Power Conversion for AI Applications

SolarEdge Technologies, based in Milpitas, California, has advanced its medium-voltage to 800 VDC (Volt Direct Current) power conversion stage for AI-driven data center applications, validating its functionality in the company’s engineering labs. The development follows a joint white paper published with NVIDIA, titled ‘800 VDC Protection and Grounding for AI Data Centers’, which establishes a vendor-neutral framework for protection and grounding requirements in 800 VDC systems. The document outlines best practices for converter-fed DC architectures, evaluates grounding options, and introduces a zone-based protection model. Under this approach, fault detection allows continuous operation in restricted facility zones, while immediate disconnection occurs at rack interfaces to prevent cascading failures.
