A Russian frigate fired two pyrotechnic flares at a Danish military helicopter operating in international waters off Denmark's coast on Monday. The flares, described as sea‑borne warning signals, missed the aircraft, which was on a routine mission to photograph the Russian vessel.
Denmark's defence minister, Jeppe Bruun, announced that the government will summon the Russian ambassador in response to the incident. A Russian comment has not been received.
The Danish military confirmed the helicopter was a NATO asset and that the flare discharge occurred in international waters, emphasizing that the incident did not result in any damage or injuries.
