Prudential Financial Inc.'s preferred shares closed at $15.00, marking a 52‑week low after falling from a high of $18.72. The decline contributed to a 1‑year total return of minus 13.19% and a year‑to‑date loss of 8.9%.

The parent company's market capitalisation stands at $40.59 billion and its price‑to‑earnings ratio is 11.06. For the second quarter, adjusted after‑tax operating income rose 14% year over year to $1.4 billion, or $4.08 per share, driven by stronger asset‑management fees, group‑insurance premiums, individual‑life sales and international operations.

Prudential cited a suspension of sales at its Japanese subsidiary, Prudential of Japan, as a headwind. In response, the insurer unveiled a restructuring programme aimed at simplifying operations, cutting costs and reallocating capital toward higher‑growth segments.

Analysts noted that the share weakness mirrors broader challenges in the financial sector, heightened market volatility and lingering economic uncertainty.
