Coinbase Partners With Moov to Bring Stablecoin Services to Over 1,000 US Community Banks

Coinbase has partnered with fintech platform Moov to deliver stablecoin payment and settlement infrastructure to more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions across the United States, the companies announced Thursday.

The collaboration combines Coinbase's regulated digital-asset infrastructure with Moov's payments platform, enabling the institutions to accept stablecoin payments, settle transactions and provide real-time funding to their customers. The service will also support merchant payouts and give businesses and merchants access to Coinbase custodial accounts.

Community banks—generally defined as institutions with less than $10 billion in total assets, including state-chartered banks and savings and loan holding companies—have long lagged behind large money-center banks in adopting digital-asset capabilities. This deal gives them access through Moov's existing customer base without requiring each bank to build its own infrastructure from scratch.

The announcement comes as the largest US banks accelerate their own stablecoin initiatives. On Wednesday, U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the country, completed a live cross-border payment using its proprietary USBDC stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain. Earlier this month, 21 financial institutions including Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and UBS said they would form a joint venture to issue stablecoins, including a US dollar-denominated token in the first half of 2027.

Non-bank firms are also entering the space. In August, Western Union announced a partnership with stablecoin infrastructure provider Rain to launch a digital wallet and a Visa-branded card that allow users to hold and spend a US dollar-backed stablecoin.
