Avolta, the Swiss travel retail operator, is trialing direct stablecoin payments at Zurich Airport for the first time. The pilot runs from September 9 to September 25 inside the Level 2 duty-free shop, the company said Wednesday.
Customers can pay for purchases straight from their digital wallets using a QR code. Transactions settle directly between the buyer and Avolta, without routing through traditional card networks or intermediary payment providers.
The test marks an expansion of crypto-friendly payments into airport retail, where Avolta operates duty-free outlets across major European airports including Zurich, Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Stockholm Arlanda.
